What Aristotle has to do with Tiger Woods and the story of the world.

"The derivation of the word “character” comes from an ancient Greek term referring to the indelible marks stamped on coins. Once character was pressed into your mind or soul, people assumed it was fixed. But what modern science repeatedly shows is that this just isn’t the case. As we discuss in our book, everyone’s moral behavior is much more variable than any of us would have initially predicted.” ~ David DeSteno

The dichotomy of good and evil is as old as the story of the world, and timeless in its relevance to just about everything we do in life, from our political and spiritual views to our taste in music, art and literature to how we think about our simple dietary choices. But while most of us recognize that these concepts of good and bad aren’t always black-and-white categories, we never cease to be surprised when someone or something we’ve perceived as “good” does or becomes something we perceive as “bad,” from an esteemed politician’s transgression to a beloved celebrity’s slip into addiction or scientology or otherwise socially undesirable behavior.

In Out of Character: Surprising Truths About the Liar, Cheat, Sinner (and Saint) Lurking in All of Us, researchers David DeSteno and Piercarlo Valdesolo explore this curious disconnect through the rigorous lens of science. Drawing on their research at the Social Emotions Lab at Northeastern University, the authors offer a fascinating yet highly readable perspective on the psychology of the hero/villain spectrum of human character, inviting us to reconceive personality, both our own and that of others, with a more balanced moral view that reflects the fluidity of human psychology.

close up

Tom Watson

To have that sense of one’s intrinsic worth which constitutes self-respect is potentially to have everything: the ability to discriminate, to love and to remain indifferent. To lack it is to be locked within oneself, paradoxically incapable of either love or indifference. If we do not respect ourselves, we are on the one hand forced to despise those who have so few resources as to consort with us, so little perception as to remind blind to our fatal weaknesses. On the other, we are peculiarly in thrall to everyone we see, curiously determined to live out-since our self-image is untenable-their false notions of us. We flatter ourselves by thinking this compulsion to please others an attractive trait: a gist for imaginative empathy, the evidence of our willingness to give. Of course I will play Francesca to your Paolo, Hellen Keller to anyone’s Annie Sullivan. No expectation is too misplaced, no role too ludicrous. At the mercy of those we cannot but hold in contempt, we play roles doomed to failure before they are begun, each defeat generating fresh despair at the urgency of diving and meeting the next demand made upon us.

We pray for Andi

I got a few messages asking for advice on writing/creativity-inspiring and the industry of media – as much as I would love to reply to everything my lifestyle has been quite busy these past few months and answering every question would take me a lot more than a couple of hours. Which is why I wanted to write this post, hopefully this will help.

1. Everything you do is an art form – use it as a vice for your creativity, let your ideas flow and select them with your mind. Don’t follow other people, think about how many ways of capturing ideas you can possibly think – let everything around you inspire you, take in the energy around you.
If you’re angry – create with anger, If you’re sad create with emotion and if you’re happy – use this to your advantage.
Follow beauty, life, even dreams.
2. If you’re starting out – remember the golden rule is to practice, practice will always make perfect and the most important thing is not to stop, because people that stay in one place will stagnate, like water. If you keep going, you will eventually reach the sea.
3. Have realistic goals. Don’t try to be the next european idol(right away), it’s not going to happen. It has taken years for the top personalities to get where they are and a lot of hard work and effort. Believe me, sticking to realistic ideas is the best way to progress.
4. Don’t be put off by criticism. Encourage to be criticized but only if it’s constructive, you need to know what you’re doing right and wrong. The best way to do this is have opinions from people that know what they are talking about.
5. Be inspired, read, write, watch movies, visit a museum, gallery, go to a comedy show, fashion show, anything at all. This will generate exciting concepts!
6. If you have an idea, do it. No excuses!

l'imagination entoure le monde

We, as artists constantly strive for perfection, unsure where life will lead us, we live life in the moment, achieve and move on to the next thing, the constant strive to do something new and unique, we want to be noticed yet we want to hide ourselves, our lives are a contradiction and yet we question everything. We are yet to realize that the happy things in life come from imperfection. We fail to notice the things in life that truly matter - it is not the image we hide ourselves under, it’s the people around us, the energy and warmth of those we love.
.

(Those being said) Trying to juggle social life, moving out and uni in a week is a bit of a hard task. This weekend I’m going to have a rest with Matt for a couple of days, chill out with a great view from our 6th floor, maybe a short walk (-do- remember to buy an umbrella), play a few orisinal, christmas movies, a perfect blanket aaand drink plenty of mars chocolate. Vanishing Point

I've been in a relationship for awhile now, and currently, as they always do, we've hit a rough patch. Every relationship has, at the very least, one. It's just something you go through, makes you stronger, makes you realize what you have is worth fighting for. It happens at every age, anytime, anywhere under any circumstances it can strike. It just so happens that ours came at a time when stress levels are higher. Nonetheless, and out of the events that have already occurred, we come out stronger every single time.

However, you always go through those times where you don't feel it's something that will be easy to pull yourself out of. Sometimes you see yourself just sitting there, watching the person before you unfold. This beautiful person, a person who respects you, a person who's loyal, a person who you can go to with anything, a person who glows, a person who believes in you, a person who thinks your gorgeous, a person worth fighting for...a person you love and who loves you, that's what you realize more than anything in these times.
But sometimes, and just sometimes, i doubt our very existence...how did we get to where we are right now?

An ode to consumerism

After almost four years of writing this blog, I have decided the time was now right to turn the lights out on this endeavour and move onto bigger things.

It's not the end of cfr but simply an evolution, and as you know all great entities must adapt in order to survive.

For now though, i would like to thank everyone that took the time out to read the blog, link it or re posted and shared the content.

Till we meet again, mucho gracias.

Lights out!

The idea of being entranced by Recuenco's work would be a monumental understatement. Recuenco creates highly conceptualized story lines, mixing sexy with ominous, he draws some of his inspiration from controversial historical events such as 1930's Nazi Germany and post-mortem photography.
The way he provokes your imagination by
creating a voyeuristic perspective for his viewers is simply adorabile.

i was reading the foreign news to understand my nation but i couldn't find any interesting notes so these will have to do.

i wanted to put something profound here about the crappy finals but i have nothing profound to say. i found this thing written by this girl named chloe instead, she got into drug - as in coke addiction recently, i felt so sorry for her, she was so pretty and her green-eyes were amazing.

Coup de coeur pour le portfolio du photographe chinois Quentin Shih, et plus particulièrement pour sa série “The Stranger In The Glass Box”. Ces clichés ont été réalisés pour Dior à l’occasion d’une exposition présentant des artistes contemporains chinois.

Unbearable prospect

Every next level of our existence is in fact a breakthrough, a way out of a new glass pot. You know it’s gonna’ be difficult, but it’s your choice to move up or down the road.

My life was designed to express an old concept of mine , a concept that i could not define until a few days ago.
U know, there is probably something in our life that is made to come at a certain time, changing a part of ourselves, or giving us an insight into our own personality. My school and old friends had a part of this role in my life. They were the bridge that confirmed the way things tend to evolve nowadays. Up and less down, straight forward, and less to the left or to the right.

For example, the story of me and my bf started with a challenge. And i guess it will continue with other challenges.. but now i know for sure i'll be prepared to face them. Not because now i'm older a little bit smarter and experienced, but a long time ago i started to know the person that's sitting next to me, and bcuz of that every moment i will know what to expect, his reactions, his thoughts, his frustrations.

Some people seek solutions dreaming about complicated things, they even seek complicated friendships and even if u won't admit it u still need to be walled by people who may hurt u. Other people try to find their simplicity, because they know this is the right choice to solve their problems. Being simple makes them think clear and coherent, makes them communicate much easier and efficient. Inside ourselves there will always be "something" that will tell us simplicity is the value we should admit as being essential.
And personally i give credits to those.

end theme

My beloved friend, I don't think i can come out and play anymore. The games are far to hard for me and besides, it's way past my bedtime.
